Our Team

Come and meet the leadership of Awaken; the ones who carry our mission, vision, and mindset.

Everything we do through Awaken revolves around the desire to see two key things among young adults. First, we want to see young adults all across the nation to come into saving relationship with Jesus Christ, fully living out the commands He has given to us. We don’t want to try and reinvent the wheel when it comes to the Great Commission, but to simply live it out to the best of our ability among this demographic. Second, we desperately want to see young adults get deeply connected to and fall in love with the local church as they come to know Jesus. While it’s true that many in this age bracket are leaving the Church for various reasons, it’s our heart to see this trend change. As the Church becomes burdened with a heart for this people group, we believe that there’s no limit to what God can do as young adults become actively involved in local churches. To see this vision come to fruition, Awaken desires to partner with local churches to reach specific college campuses throughout the United States. We believe that as this happens, young adults can truly be a transforming presence in the Church at large.

Marcus DePeal, Director of Awaken

Transformed by God. Connected to the Church. Sent into the World.

We believe that the gospel is about much more than just getting a ticket into heaven and then passively waiting for that day to come. While we desire to see every person confess and repent of their sin and receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, this is only the beginning of the Christian life. From here, we believe that through the power of the Holy Spirit our desires and dispositions can be transformed from having motives of pride and selfishness to humility and selflessness. More than any one worship experience or large event, we believe that a true awakening is seeing hearts radically transformed in a community by the presence and power of God Himself.

Given that the majority of our ministry takes place on college campuses, we realize that at the very best we have a four-year window into the lives of most of our people. This being the case, we feel the burden to steward this four-year window well by connecting each and every one of our people to a partner church near their college campus. As Awaken, we care deeply about the longevity of our people’s faith and believe that this can only be sustained through relationships with the body of Christ, most effectively in the local church.

We believe that a real awakening is a “divinely ordered, viral movement of the Holy Spirit bringing many people into saving faith in Jesus Christ and joining them together in discipling communities, leading to dynamic redemptive transformation in all sectors of society.” In other words, as our people are transformed by God and connected to the Church, this should have a great impact on the world around us. We believe that once you’ve come into saving relationship with Jesus Christ, your salvation is not just for you – it’s also for the world. Any true movement of God should mobilize the people of God to fulfill the great commission, going out into all the world baptizing people and teaching them to obey all the commands of Christ.

Awaken United Services take place once each college semester as we gather 18-30 year-olds from across all of our Awaken campuses to one location, and are led by our Awaken team based out of Trinity Church. These gatherings celebrate what God is doing across all of our campuses and energize each community to go back to their campus and live out the gospel in everyday life.

Awaken offers 4 layers of community for any college campus that we minister to.

On each of our campuses Awaken has 3 of what we call ‘Cornerstone Services’ per semester. These events are campus-specific services that include preaching and worship through music, and they will have a unique feel depending on the culture of the school and Awaken community present there. Cornerstone Services are places where anyone can encounter the presence of God through the word, worship, and body of Christ. These services function as believer-oriented events but are great entry points for anyone who does not yet know Christ.

Unless a Cornerstone Service is taking place, Discipleship Nights are weekly gatherings of the Awaken community as the campus pastor teaches from the word. As the campus pastor teaches, time is given throughout the gathering for round-table discussion and intentional interaction between those present. Discipleship Nights function as times to ask questions, discuss important biblical topics, and go deeper in the understanding of God’s word.

D-Groups (discipleship groups) are groups of 3-5 people that meet once a week to read scripture, have personal accountability, and to pray for each other and their campus. D-Groups are the place where our people find intimate and deep relationship, empowering them to truly understand and live out the commands of Christ in every aspect of their lives.

Trinity Church exists to connect people within our reach into a caring, biblical community, helping them to become fully devoted and fully developing followers (disciples) of Jesus who are reshaping our city and world for God’s glory.
